Article 2 In a Series of Articles on How To Go On A Cheap Date

Festivals, Fairs, and Farmer’s Markets

Your area probably has major festivals several times a year.  For instance, you may have a film festival featuring classic movies or movies from a specific culture or country.

Harvest festivals in the United States tend to center around a certain crop important to the area.  For instance, in Indio, CA there is a National Date festival every February.  In Michigan, a Cherry Festival is held in July.

There are also festivals which center around a certain culture.  Chinese New Years celebrations take place in a large number of cities in late January or early February.  Communities with large Jewish, Greek, or Mexican immigrant populations may also feature celebrations around important dates.  While these events draw largely from the stated community, all are welcome and visitors are encouraged to come.  These events are either free or charge a small fee.  You will also be able to pick up some cheap ethnic food at these festivals.

Then there are specialty festivals and gatherings.  For instance there are several Renaissance Faires held across the country.  Fantasy and science fiction fans get together frequently for events as well.  If your date is interested in any of these genres, you can make a splash by taking them to these cheap date venues.

Fairs are also great date ideas.  These are largely held in the summer or on holidays such as Memorial Day or Labor Day.  There is usually a low admission charge that gets you into the event and most of the shows.  Separate fees are charged for rides and for headline events.  You can often find discounts or packages through local sponsors such as grocery stores.

But you don’t have to wait for the annual fair or festival to enjoy the camaraderie of outdoor entertainment.  Many communities put on significant farmer’s markets each week.  In addition to produce and craft sales, the larger farmer’s markets feature weekly entertainment.  Admission to the market is free.  You can often pick up dinner on the cheap from street venders as well.

How To Go On A Cheap Date

Volunteer

When you volunteer, you not only get a free date, you give something back to the community.  If you and your significant other share a passion for some cause, your relationship will become closeras a result of working together toward a common cause.

If your significant other is already involved in a volunteering activity, try joining them.  Otherwise, sit down and come up with a list of things you both care about.

For instance, if you are an animal lover, go to the local shelter and play with the cats and dogs.  These animals do not get enough attention and the shelter needs all of the help it can get.  Spending a couple of hours with animals that have been mistreated can be a lot of fun, and it does a world of good for these lonely cats and dogs.

But volunteering doesn’t have to happen on an institutional scale either.  If you and your significant other know someone who has broken a leg or otherwise become immobile, volunteer to walk their dog once a day for the duration.  This becomes time you can spend together and you are doing a friend a good turn.

Similarly, you can do yard work for an elderly neighbor when the seasons require it.  In the fall, mandatory leaf raking can be too physically demanding for an older person and if they are on a fixed budget, it may be to expensive for them to hire someone to do it.  But, if you and your s.o. pitch in, you can have a ball doing this together.

If you enjoy children, make a “play date” so that a young couple or single mom can have a night out.  You and your s.o. can play monopoly, watch cartoons, and wrestle with their kids.  It will give you and your date a chance to see how the other interacts with children, a vital piece of information if you would like to have a family together someday.

My final volunteer date is to have a political experience.  Political rallies have all of the pomp of a concert.  In fact, at rallies for more high profile races, there are often rock stars present.  Liberal candidates tend to have a higher “big name” draw.  Obama’s campaign was able to feature Jennifer Hudson, wil.i.am, Sheryl Crow, and Bruce Springsteen to various events.  Lee Greenwood is a standard headliner at big Republican events.

Best Ways To Get Her Back Quiz: Mending My Broken Heart

It is Okay to Mourn

Grief requires mourning.  Give yourself permission to get over the relationship.  Call in sick to work if you need to.

Write a letter to your ex spilling out all of the hurt you have.  It is okay for this letter to run pages and pages long.  But don’t send it.  Instead, when you have poured out your heart on paper, burn it.  This will help you bring closure to the relationship.

You may also want to create a “divorce ceremony” to help you bring closure to the relationship.  Just as the bride and groom take two separately lit candles and together light a unity candle to signify their new union at a wedding, you can create a divorce ceremony that signifies your new single state.  Your ex may wish to join you in this ceremony or you can do it yourself.

Congratulate Yourself on Being Human

Part of being human is experiencing the hurts of everyday life.  Life hurts – but there are great parts too.  Acknowledging that there is both pain and joy in life will help you appreciate the human experience more.

You may want to develop a helpful mantra to help you get through this stage in your life.  A mantra is a mind tool which is used like a barbell for the mind.  You repeat a short phrase frequently to help you develop that mindset.  You might say “I am a lovable person” to yourself with a great frequency – especially when you are feeling unlovable.

During this time, you should reach out to a close friend or family member for support.  Your ex was a big part of your support system prior to the break up.  Because he is no longer there, you need to strengthen the other facets of the support system you have in place.

You also need to remember what is good about you.  Make a list of the things you offer a potential partner.  If you are loving, giving, and an easy conversationalist, dwell on these things rather than the fact that your ex didn’t want you anymore.

Also, remember that it’s not always about you.  Your ex had other things going on in his life that were independent of whatever you brought to the relationship.  When he said “it’s not you, it’s me,” maybe it was.

Finally, honor how you are feeling.  Don’t dismiss your emotions quickly just because they are uncomfortable.  Part of being human is to have these hard emotions.  They help you grow.

Article 1 In a Series of Articles on Mending My Broken Heart

This new article serie will be about  what troubles most of us with relation problems; the pain from a broken or hurted heart and how to mend it. We will start with a verse from a song with Bee Gees.

“And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend a this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again.”
--Bee Gees

How do You Mend a Broken Heart

Just as you didn’t fall in love overnight, you won’t fall out of love overnight.  And, we call the process of falling out of love “mending a broken heart.”

There are several stages to mending a broken heart.

First, there is the hurting stage.  During this stage, the pain can feel so bad that you may want die rather than experience it.  People often try to drown their symptoms by drinking, taking drugs, or cutting themselves.

There are other, less severe symptoms as well.  For instance, crying often accompanies the painful period after a break up.

Some people use this time to “stalk” their ex.  Whether it is making midnight phone calls, millions of texts, or going over to their home to monitor their behavior, stalking is a way of keeping tabs on an ex.

Others lean on friends during this period.  Good friends can give you the emotional support you need to move on.

During this initial period of hurting, it is important to develop strong coping skills.  For instance, it is good to rekindle friendships that you didn’t have time for when the relationship was going strong.

Talking to other people about how they dealt with a break up is another excellent way to cope.  Not only will you get survival strategies, it will confirm your belief that other people have gone through the same thing – and lived to tell the tale.

It is important at this stage of the game to think happy thoughts.  Just remembering that there are pleasant things in the world will help you live through this tough stage in your life.

Finally, you should begin to focus on you.  Breaking up means taking the “I” out of the “We.”  So, now is a good time to begin looking at how you can meet your needs – especially the needs that were not met in the relationship itself.

The next stage of the break up is “getting even.”  During this time, you want to repay your ex with all of the misery he has doled out on you.  Getting even is not a healthy phase of getting over a relationship, and you should do everything you can to minimize the time you spend in this place.

During this time, you may try to make your ex’s life a living hell.  This can involve things like crank calling them dozens of times, sending them a computer virus, and threatening them.  All of these are bad ideas.  Not only can they get you in trouble within your own social group and potentially in trouble with the law, they also delay your own recovery.

Article 7 Concludes The Series of Articles on From Making Up to Breaking Up

Best Ways To Get Her Back Quizzes

Bring Closure to the Relationships

Think about how many ceremonies we have to mark important life events – baptism of a baby, Bar Mitzvah, Graduation, Marriage, and even Funerals.

Breaking up with someone special is a major life event. Yet there are no ceremonies to mark it. So, in order to bring closure to a relationship, you may have to create your own.

Here's one that has worked for many people.

Write a long letter to your ex about how you felt about him or her and the relationship you shared. You can include the good times and the bad. You can talk about your love and your hurt.

But when you're done, don't send the letter. Instead, light a candle and slowly burn the letter. You'll feel that the relationship is truly over when you do this.

Move On

After a relationship is over, you may feel like sitting around in your room eating Ben and Jerry's and playing sad songs. But, it is important that you get back into the swing of life as a single person.

Go to family events and make a point of going out with friends. Don't dwell on the past. When someone brings up your ex, say “thanks, but I'm moving on now.”

You now have time to pursue activities and interests that your ex didn't care for. So, plan to take a class, join a group, or get involved with something meaningful. Not only will this fill the hours you used to spend with your ex, it will also give you a sense of renewed purpose. Additionally, you will meet new people at a time when you may feel that you are all alone.

Join a gym – and actually use the membership! Working out will make you feel better if you are slightly depressed. You'll also begin to look better which will make you a more attractive candidate to the opposite sex.

Because soon, you will be joining the dating pool again. Don't worry if the first person who asks you out doesn't seem to be a candidate for the love of your life. Just go and enjoy yourself. It will be good practice for when you meet someone really attractive to you.

You will know that you are over your ex when you fall in love again.

Conclusion

A break up may or may not be the end of a relationship. How you handle the break up may determine whether you can get back together or not.

If getting back together is a priority, don't wreck the process by being too eager. Be casual. As you do get back together, focus on fixing what went wrong. Also, step back and ratchet your relationship down a notch. These two things will give you a better chance of getting the relationship back on the right track.

If the relationship is truly over, there is a mourning process which is natural. But the sooner you can move on the better. That's why you should bring closure to the relationship. Sort out what's yours and what is your ex's. Then, re-enter the social scene as a single man or woman.

Relationships can bring much joy to our lives. On the flip side, they can bring pain. I wish you much luck as you sort out breaking up to making up.
